Colorado Springs real estate – garden paths

If you are interested in upgrading the garden path and steps of your Colorado Springs real estate stonework is a good place to start. You do not have to have a lot of experience to do stonework. You can buy flat flagstones at a number of different places. They come in a great number of different designs, colors, and sizes. You can easily lay these out for paths and stack then to make solid stairs for your Colorado Springs real estate.

Stairs will need to be built on a gradual slope. This could be as steep as 40 degrees. Steps like this have a more rustic appearance and are better suited for informal garden paths. If you are building steps that will receive a lot of traffic like a Colorado Springs real estate entryway you may want to look at pouring concrete.

The basic equipment that you will need to build garden paths and steps for your Colorado Springs real estate are fairly simple. You will need a level, basic gardening tolls like shovels, rakes and spades, a good pair of work gloves a good hammer like a 4 pound maul. This will be used to break and chip up stones.

Start by making a rough draft of the plans for the steps of your Colorado Springs real estate. You will need to figure out how many risers you plan on building. You will also want to include any retaining walls that you may want o build in this draft. To figure out how many risers you will need you will need to measure the total horizontal distance that you plan on having your stairs travel along a line that is level. This is referred to as the run of the stairs. To figure out the rise of the stairs you will measure down to the level line. You want to have the stairs be about 12 inches deep and have a rise of around 7 inches.

When planning your Colorado Springs real estate steps keep in mind that small gentle slopes require short risers and longer treads where as any steep slope will require taller risers. Now that we are done with the planning portion it is time to move on to the fun part which is visiting a stone supplier in Colorado Springs real estate. There are many typed of stone available. They come in lots of different colors, sizes and shapes. You want to look for flagstone that is 2 to 3 inches thick.

Now you can start to dig out where your steps are going to go and begin to lay out the stones so you can figure out which pieces to use for the first step. You want to adjust your risers at this point and make sure that they are level. After you have confirmed that they are level you are ready to lay the first tread. The first step in Colorado Springs real estate is always the trickiest, after you get it done things get much easier. Make sure that when you move on to the second step to leave some overhang on the first step. It is also okay to leave some gaps in the stones that you can later fill in with dirt.
