Garages That Sell Colorado Springs Real Estate

So you’ve decided to place your home on the Colorado Springs real estate market.  You’ve thoroughly cleaned the inside of your home, staged every room to perfection, and you’ve found that you simply cannot procrastinate any longer in addressing the garage.  This is often a daunting task that many sellers try to ignore.  However, garage space is at the top of most buyers’ wish lists and the more a seller can do to show off their garages the easier it will be to sell the home.  Here are some considerations for sellers to keep in mind when marketing their Colorado Springs real estate.

First things first, garages must be clean.  The first step for any Colorado Springs real estate seller should be to remove every single thing from the garage space.  Once the space is completely empty, sellers can get to work cleaning.  The garage should be free of spider webs, bugs, dust and especially debris on the floor.  Any dirt that has been carried in by cars should also be removed.  While some homeowners may feel that garages are simply impossible to keep clean, Colorado Springs real estate buyers are sure to appreciate these efforts.  The last thing buyers want to see is a neglected space in a home, including the garage.  Once the space has been cleaned, it’s time to decide where the former contents of the garage should be placed.

Sellers should divide their belongings into three piles.  These include a pile of items to throw away, a pile of items that will be placed in a storage unit until the move, and a pile for items that will be needed before the move and will ultimately be returned to the garage.  Sellers would be wise to remember that the fewer items they have in their garage, the larger the space will appear.  Garages should be staged like any other room in Colorado Springs real estate when the home is on the market for sale.  And this means paying particular attention to storage spaces.  If a garage has cabinets, now is a great time to apply a fresh coat of paint or stain.  This is also true for shelving.  Any shelving and cabinetry should be left half full as well. Buyers should open the garage door and immediately see a ton of available storage that is perfect for all their belongings.  Plus, Colorado Springs real estate that features plenty of storage space will sell for a higher price.

And finally, buyers are looking for a feeling of luxury with any Colorado Springs real estate purchase.  Adding a luxury feel to the garage will provide an unexpected wow factor for any buyer and entice them to right a great offer.  Some sellers may feel that their garage is simply not a luxury item.  While this is true of many garages, the feel can be achieved anywhere with a little effort.  One common trick is for sellers to paint the garage floor.  This will make the garage look and feel much newer and cleaner, especially if the floor is frequently swept clean.  Another idea is for sellers to finish insulating the garage.  Often, garages in the Colorado Springs real estate area are only insulated where the garage borders interior living space.  Adding additional insulation will capture the eye of anyone looking to use the space for a workshop, or any buyer who appreciates a warm car on cold winter mornings.

While preparing the garage for a home sale may seem trivial, sellers should not overlook this important space in Colorado Springs real estate.  Buyers are often excited about the possibilities of their future home and a large accommodating garage is sure to thrill them.
