Soaking in an outdoor tub at the Jumby Bay resort in Antigua, I’m so relaxed that my city-girl phobias fade away—even the lizard slithering up the wall and a few bugs in the bathwater don’t faze me.In search of the perfect Caribbean island getaway over the years, I’ve found many resorts to be long on lizards and bugs but short on charm, service, food and accommodations to justify astronomical prices. That’s not the case at Jumby Bay, which reopened in December after an 18-month, $28 million spiffing-up. Long ranked among the best in the region, the property, after three decades, was showing its age. Now, it all works, from the stunning ocean-view rooms with all conveniences to the friendly, accommodating staff.
The Colorado Springs real estate area is a pretty amazing place. But I must admit that afternoons such as this, when the clouds seem to hoover but refuse to bring snow, make me wish for sunny, fluorescent blue water, and palm trees.
