Founded in 1936 by visionary Alice Bemis Taylor, the Taylor Museum of the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center is committed to educating the public about the breadth of artistic expressions in the Americas through the presentation of a world renowned permanent collection, dynamic exhibitions from around the world, and related cultural and innovative programs.The Fine Arts Center’s new museum addition, designed by nationally recognized architect David Owen Tryba, complements and enhances the original structure designed by New Mexican architect John Gaw Meem in 1936. The addition features nine permanent collection galleries, two traveling exhibition galleries, and an unprecedented tactile gallery. The expanded 132,286 square-foot facility will host major international traveling and changing exhibitions and feature works from the Center’s significant permanent collection.
The Fine Arts Center, located in the Downtown Colorado Springs real estate area has hosted numerous traveling art exhibitions. And their current installation is an exhibit of art inspired by NASA. That’s right, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. They are even hosting a lecture given by astronaut Richard Truly this Saturday at 2:00, which is sure to fascinating. Truly was a part of the later Apollo and Challenger projects and received recognition by President Reagen for his efforts following the Challenger explosion.
