Celebrating a Decade of ENERGY STAR Buildings : ENERGY STAR
Beginning with the first building to earn the ENERGY STAR in 1999, EPA has helped bring thousands of organizations in the commercial building marketplace to the forefront of energy efficiency and climate stewardship. It’s a compelling story of breaking down barriers, driving demand, and delivering excellence. Come celebrate a decade of ENERGY STAR buildings with this historical retrospective of how it all began, where we are today, and a glimpse at the exciting future that lay ahead.
Did you know that the Energy Star program has been around for a decade! I can’t believe it has been that long already. I remember looking up the Energy Star program in 2000 (the year I purchased my first desktop computer) to figure out why there were stickers all over my computer. And now, it seems like everything we purchase has the Energy Star label. From dishwashers to clothes dryers, from dvd players to light bulbs, the Energy Star sticker appears just about everywhere.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy are solely responsible for the Energy Star campaign. And I am amazed at the progress their efforts have made. Manufacturers have fully embraced the program and realize that striving for a high energy star rating is good for business. In fact, Colorado Springs homes for sale that include Energy Star appliances definitely have a competitive advantage over those with dated, less energy efficient appliances and HVAC systems. Energy efficiency is at the top of today’s buyers’ minds so the next time you’re out shopping for home improvements keep the Energy Star sticker in mind. It will save you cash on your energy bills and could help you sell your home in the future. Sounds like a win-win situation to me!
